On Monday 21st November we had a special visitor. She was Isis, wife of the famous Egyptian God Osiris. We joined her on a trip down the Nile where we met crocodiles, made pyramids and helped to mummify a body. Luckily it was all in our imagination! Enjoy our photos that show us enjoying our dramatic journey.

As part of our recent work on The Human body, we visited the SEARCH museum in Gosport.

We spent the day  as scientists, exploring skeletons of humans and animals!

We also reinforced our understanding of how the human body works including the internal organs, muscles and joints.

Please enjoy the photos!

First we had to put a skeleton together! (Our stories about Funny Bones really helped us!)

We also had a look at animal skeletons.

We enjoyed using the electronic microscope to look at an owl pellet!! (what the owl has eaten and then thrown up! Yuk!)

At the SEARCH Museum the children had the opportunity to investigate and explore the human and animal skeletons in a variety of activities. Here are some amazing pictures of our little scientists at work.

This half term Year 3 are extremely lucky because they have Pompey in the community taking some sessions on ‘Nelson Investigates’. This is an opportunity for children to learn all about the water system and experience some further physical education.

This week the children looked at how we get our water and where it goes once we have drunk it.

Then we went outside and practiced some team skills, as well as running and co-ordination skills.

Cave paintings

Yesterday, Whales class created their own cave paintings.

image

To do this, we covered a piece of card in glue and covered it with sand. We then went outside and had to find natural materials, like sticks, to carve drawings onto the card.

Butser Ancient Farm

This term Year 3 are learning all about Stone Age to Iron Age.
We started this topic with a visit to Butser Ancient farm.

Firstly, we learnt to make clunch. We did this by getting a wooden hammer and breaking chalk into tiny pieces.

Then, we mixed the chalk with dirt and water. We then used the mixture to create a wall, like they would have done.

After this, we created our own stone carvings using a piece of chalk and flint. Some of us also turned ours green, using a leaf.

Once we had done this, we had lunch around the camp fire and played some games.

image

image

Later on, we made our own fences by weaving branches in and out of each other.

Once this was done, we made our own bracelets and visited the shop.

Then it was home time!
It was a very cold, wet and windy day but we coped fantastically and had so much fun. We learnt so much about how people in the stone age lived and we can now use this in our learning at school.
