Chameleons visit to the SEARCH museum

As part of our recent work on The Human body, we visited the SEARCH museum in Gosport.

We spent the day  as scientists, exploring skeletons of humans and animals!

We also reinforced our understanding of how the human body works including the internal organs, muscles and joints.

Please enjoy the photos!

First we had to put a skeleton together! (Our stories about Funny Bones really helped us!)

We also had a look at animal skeletons.

We enjoyed using the electronic microscope to look at an owl pellet!! (what the owl has eaten and then thrown up! Yuk!)

At the SEARCH Museum the children had the opportunity to investigate and explore the human and animal skeletons in a variety of activities. Here are some amazing pictures of our little scientists at work.

This half term Year 3 are extremely lucky because they have Pompey in the community taking some sessions on ‘Nelson Investigates’. This is an opportunity for children to learn all about the water system and experience some further physical education.

This week the children looked at how we get our water and where it goes once we have drunk it.

Then we went outside and practiced some team skills, as well as running and co-ordination skills.

Cave paintings

Yesterday, Whales class created their own cave paintings.

image

To do this, we covered a piece of card in glue and covered it with sand. We then went outside and had to find natural materials, like sticks, to carve drawings onto the card.

Butser Ancient Farm

This term Year 3 are learning all about Stone Age to Iron Age.
We started this topic with a visit to Butser Ancient farm.

Firstly, we learnt to make clunch. We did this by getting a wooden hammer and breaking chalk into tiny pieces.

image

image

image

Then, we mixed the chalk with dirt and water. We then used the mixture to create a wall, like they would have done.

image

image

image

After this, we created our own stone carvings using a piece of chalk and flint. Some of us also turned ours green, using a leaf.

image

image

Once we had done this, we had lunch around the camp fire and played some games.

image

image

Later on, we made our own fences by weaving branches in and out of each other.

image

image

image

image

image

Once this was done, we made our own bracelets and visited the shop.

image

Then it was home time!
It was a very cold, wet and windy day but we coped fantastically and had so much fun. We learnt so much about how people in the stone age lived and we can now use this in our learning at school.

Trip to Fort Nelson

This week year 3 visited Fort Nelson.

image

We went to discover more about rocks and see how they are used in different areas.

image

image

We went down some scary tunnels and looked at the different rocks used to create them.

image

image

image

When we were down the tunnels, we found some old cells and cannons. This was very exciting!

image

image

image

image

Then we went above ground and went on a treasure hunt for natural and man made rocks!

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

After this, we had lunch and we got to explore the grounds further. We saw lots of cannons and some of us took the opportunity to use our rocks in creative ways!

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

image

Then we were super lucky because we got to see one of the cannons  fire!

image

image

image

image

image

Finally, we went to the shop. We had to use the maths skills that we have learnt to work out what we could afford and how much change we’d have.

image

image

image

We had a wonderful time and made our teachers very proud.
